To save that position I added a so called “camera”, this is the white icon which you can also see on the right side of the dome. Of course lights can’t just appear out of no where which is why I added a lantern as well.Īnd finally I positioned my view of the scenery so that I could generate the image which you see above. Because things got a bit too dark I then decided to add another light source in front of Riley: the yellow “star” you can see there. This icon represents a so called distant light which is usually meant to represent the light from either the sun or the moon, in my case I decided to add a night effect by having it cast a blueish light on my scenery. If you look closely you can see 3 blueish arrows on the left side of the dome. Because I wanted her to “do” something I applied a so called pose which makes her appear as if she’s looking around.Īfter that I added some effects. Then I added the female figure (“Riley”, the official name is: “Riley for Stephanie 5” (I’ll explain this later on)) and properly dressed her. I then added a prop (the roof) and placed it on the (virtual) ground. So what are we looking at here… First I changed the background of my scenery to black so that I didn’t have to worry about “open” areas. I know it’s a bit (too?) dark but I still think it ended up not too badly, though I definitely need a bit more practice with lighting.Īnd this is how things look from within the editor itself:

And then you can end up with pictures such as these: For example: a metallic surface will reflect more light than a wooden surface or a simple piece of clothing. You have a virtual environment in which you can set up props and figures, then apply some light settings after which the computer can generate an image by calculate how things should look. Simply put it’s all about CGI: Computer Generated Imagery. I don’t want to bother myself with scripting and stuff when I’m blogging. I would also like to apologize for the (maybe) horrible formatting of my blog but… I blog in Word, I upload and then I get into an environment where I can’t even do so much as easily apply spacing around my images. We share an interest in each other’s hobbies which is how I learned more about Daz Studio.
#EDITING DAZ 3D MODELS IN HEXAGON FOR FREE#
It was actually my girlfriend who introduced me to all of this when the Daz3D company provided one of their products (“Bryce” or “Hexagon”) for free and my gf had no option at that time to get it, so I helped her out with that.

Things easily overlooked and so: I wanted to vent.īefore I continue my story I’d like to make it well known that this isn’t necessarily my field of expertise, my passion and interest lies with (digital) audio.
#EDITING DAZ 3D MODELS IN HEXAGON SOFTWARE#
But no, the reason for this post is because this software is actually quite impressive, especially if you take a closer look at all the features you get. So why this blog post you might wonder? Trust me: it’s not meant as some kind of hidden advertisement for the Daz3D company, though I suppose it could still be explained as such. When that happens the Daz store will be patiently waiting for you. However you’ll also soon discover their limits and maybe you want more after that. Sure: you get a lot of freebies in the so called “Starter Essentials kits” which are more than enough to build some cool ‘renders’ of your own. Now, it’s not my intention to make things look better than they actually are: the things I mentioned above most definitely also apply to Daz Studio. ‘Freemium’ is a term used to describe software which is provided free of charge but with one small catch: it’s also meant to be an appetizer which tries to persuade you into actually buying stuff from the company behind it. Freemium done right: Daz Studio (3D modeling software)
